This article guides you to link your Key Results (KRs) to Jira issues and manage their progress automatically within Synergita OKR. This integration ensures your KR progress updates in real-time based on your team's work in Jira.

1. Linking a Key Result (KR) to Jira Issues

Once Jira integration is enabled by your administrator and you have access, a Jira icon will appear next to each KR row on the Objective and OKR Details pages. This icon is initially grey.

Step 1: Open the Link to Jira Pop-up

  • Click on the grey Jira icon adjacent to the Key Result you wish to link.
  • A pop-up titled “Link to Jira” will appear, offering two methods to link: Issues and JQL.

Step 2: Choose Your Linking Method

Link Single issue

  • The Issues radio button is selected by default.
  • You will see a dropdown list of Jira issues available to you, retrieved directly from Jira. Each issue will display an icon based on its type.
  • Select a single issue from the dropdown. Only single selection is allowed.
  • Click the Link button.
  • Upon successful linking, the pop-up will close, the Jira icon for that KR will change from grey to blue.

Linking via JQL Query (Multiple Issues)

  • Click the JQL radio button.
  • A text field will appear, allowing you to enter a JQL (Jira Query Language) query (up to 200 characters).
  • Click the Verify link below the JQL field. This will validate your query with Jira and display the number of "Total Issues," "To Do," "In Progress," and "Done" issues matching your query.
  • Click the Link button. If verification is successful, it will proceed with linking.
  • Upon successful linking, the pop-up will close, the Jira icon for that KR will change from grey to blue.

2. Managing Your Linked Key Results

Once a KR is linked to Jira, its progress will be updated automatically. The Jira icon will turn blue for the corresponding KR, and its tooltip will display “Linked to Jira”. Clicking this blue icon will open a panel with the following options:

  • Sync Now: This option allows you to immediately synchronize the KR progress with Jira, bypassing the regular sync frequency.
  • Edit: This option opens a pop-up, which allows you to modify the linked issues or the JQL query.
  • Unlink:This option opens a confirmation pop-up. Upon confirmation, it will unlink the KR from Jira. The progress status at the time of unlinking will be retained until you manually change it.

Important Notes for Linked KRs:

  • When a KR is linked to Jira, manual progress updates in Synergita OKR will be disabled. The progress will be updated solely by the status of the linked Jira issue(s).
  • Cascading is not allowed for Jira-linked KRs.
  • Jira linking is still allowed even if progress for a Key Result has already been updated manually in Synergita. Once linked, any future progress will be automatically updated based on Jira issue status.
