Normalisation of Ratings brings greater objectivity and consistency to the performance review process. It is an efficient mechanism designed to balance the variations in evaluation styles among different managers. This process ensures fairness and uniformity across the organization and is commonly practiced in mid-sized and large enterprises.
As a general guideline, the normalized rating of an employee is determined by considering various factors such as:
1.The difficulty of the assignment
2.The importance of the Key Result Areas (KRAs) assigned to the employee
3.The departmental goals and overall business objectives
The final rating is evaluated relative to the ratings of other employees, promoting a balanced distribution of performance scores.
Over time, normalization helps refine managerial rating tendencies and strengthens the integrity of the appraisal process. It also plays a crucial role in determining key outcomes such as promotions, rewards, and annual salary revisions, as the normalized score forms the foundation for these decisions.
To do normalization of employee performance review scores
- Navigate to Performance > Normalization

- Select the relevant Appraisal Cycle for which you want to view or manage the normalization process.
- The Normalization page will display all employees included in the selected cycle along with their performance details.

- On the Normalization page, managers/HR can verify whether the idealized bell curve set aligns with the actual bell curve, which is automatically generated based on the ratings provided.
- The rating distribution across various parameters such as: Organization Units, Locations, Employee Levels can be analyzed using the filters.

Reviewing the ratings, Approval, Rejection, or Modifying Grades before publishing the final results can be performed under the normalization page. To view the feedback details from the Normalization page;

Click on the "Action" button with respect to the user in order to view their feedback and rating details in detail.
In cases where deviations are observed between the ideal and actual distributions, adjustment in the final ratings can be made. The Bell Curve updates automatically to reflect these modifications in real time
To change a grade, select the appropriate grade corresponding to the employee. A Comments pop-up will appear, allowing managers to provide remarks or justifications for the grade change before submission.
Normalization of ratings ensures fair, consistent, and unbiased performance evaluations across teams, enabling accurate recognition and reward of employees.
